A big change is coming to Cacoo: we’re ditching Flash for HTML5.
Since Cacoo was created in 2009, we have been using Flash for our editing interface. At one time, it was incredibly popular for its ability to enable advanced graphical expressions on the web unaffected by a user’s operating environment.
Nowadays, because of the vulnerabilities of Flash, there are a lot of concerns surrounding security. Meanwhile, HTML5 has grown in its ability to encode rich graphics and has slowly overtaken Flash for forward thinking companies.
In response to our ever-changing technological landscape, the Cacoo Development Team has decided to say goodbye to Flash, and migrate over to HTML5.
Revamping this core feature is no easy task, and some users may be worried how this change will affect their Cacoo experience. As we take on this challenge, we promise our users the following:
- We won’t disable any of Cacoo’s current key features. The parts of Cacoo that you know and love are coming with for the ride.
- We will continue to provide you with great features, templates, and shapes for creating clean, professional diagrams.
- We will never stop trying to improve Cacoo.
We are expecting to achieve great things in the way of performance as we continue to develop new features, resolve issues, and improve the user experience.
For those of you eager to try out the new interface ASAP, keep an eye out for when we announce the release of our beta version, where you can test it out in advance of our formal release.
At this point, we can’t say exactly when we will deliver this new editing interface, but we will inform you of updates as they come, so please keep checking our blog for updates!
